How To Select The Right Net
When purchasing netting, there are many different things to consider. In this article, we are going to educate you on how to select the right netting material for your needs and budget!
Netting Material Types
There are 2 primary types of netting material, Nylon and Poly. Poly by nature is weather resistant, however it is not as durable as Nylon. Even though Nylon is not weather resistant by nature, you can add Latex Treatment to allow for outdoor use. Due to a much higher break strength, Nylon is a longer lasting material used in commercial facilities and universities, whereas Poly is more of a backyard or recreational material.
Netting Mesh Sizes
Smaller mesh sizes are more suitable for sports like golf and baseball, while larger mesh sizes are suitable for sports like soccer.
Here are the netting sizes we offer and which sports they are suitable for:
Baseball/Softball
- 1 ¾” - 2”
Golf
- ¾” - 1”
Football/Soccer
- 4”

Netting Grade
Within each netting type, there are also different grades and mesh sizes. The higher the grade of netting, the more durable it is. For example, #60 Nylon is more durable than #36 Nylon!
When determining which netting to get, you should also factor in how often it will be used. For example, a #36 Nylon net would be great for a residential application but not so much for a commercial facility.
Here is an easy breakdown of netting grades and their recommended uses:
#36 Nylon - #42 Nylon
- Residential/Recreational
#42 Nylon - #60 Nylon
- Commercial/University
#72 Nylon - #96 Nylon
